Friday, August 28, 2026 – 10:00 a.m. – With the director of the Martha Graham School, Ashley Brown, as my hyper-aware guide, I walked dizzily through the labyrinthine, astonishingly vast new Martha Graham studios, practice and conference rooms, administrative offices, and — as you see here — the quintessential costume shop, a world in and of itself.

My cognitive adjustment from the venerable historic space at Westbeth was breathless.

Room after room, high-ceilinged, white walled, airy, many with classic NYC midtown views — I was by turns light-headed and (admittedly) incredulous.

In an impromptu post-script to my tour with Ashley, artistic director Janet Eilber took me to her corner-office, gesturing through the window at neon-drenched Times Square vertiginously below, telling me, with a half-smile, “I will be able to see the Ball drop.”
