Martha Graham taught at the Juilliard School from 1951-1977. And there she was again, gracing the window of The Juilliard Store on West 66th Street in Manhattan, for all the world to see, in celebration of International Choreographers Day. Strolling by, I am reminded of some characteristically trenchant wisdom Martha passed along during an assembly of her Juilliard dance students on March 25, 1952: “If you work today, and do not work tomorrow, you cannot make up that day! It’s gone. You are one day behind what you can be. That day is gone forever out of your life. There is a curious inevitability about that.”
